Today I want to recognize a local family owned and operated restaurant that has been in the Lake Conroe area for 30 years. Originating in Willis, Pizza Shack provides East Coast Italian style cuisine. The restaurant opened in 1985 as a small “shack” in Willis, Texas. Even in those days they were known for their Wednesday Pizza Buffet which continues to this day. The restaurant has grown from its humble beginnings as a shack. Now Pizza Shack has a location in Willis as well as Montgomery. They also have a catering service known as Danellos.
Many first-timers have the impression that Pizza Shack only serves pizza but they offer so much more. Today you can choose from pizza, calzones, sandwiches, pasta, traditional Italian-style entrees, as well as some amazing chicken and seafood specialties. They even serve hamburgers if you are in the mood for something less Italian. My favorite hamburger is the chipotle burger on a jalapeno bun. My family and I have eaten at Pizza Shack for years and some of our favorites include Eggplant Parmigiana, Alfredo Pizza, Calzone, and the Meatball Sub. My kids say they have the best ranch dressing in the world. From the time they were young we had to order a side of ranch for anything on the menu. The desserts are amazing too. Though it may be difficult, make sure you save room for the bread pudding!
Pizza Shack remains a family favorite in the community with a comfortable atmosphere and quality food. It is a great place to eat for lunch or dinner. If you are visiting the Lake Conroe area come check it out. They also offer daily lunch specials and don’t forget about the Wednesday Pizza and Salad Buffet. Check out their Willis Facebook page or Montgomery Facebook page for pictures of the weekend specials.
Here is a fun fact about me…my very first job at 16 was at Pizza Shack. Back in those days they delivered Pizza so I was a delivery driver. On one particular delivery I had a collision with a very large wild hog, damaging my mom’s car. The hog sustained no injuries and got up and walked away into the woods. The pizzas and my mom’s car were not as fortunate. The pizzas were destroyed and needless to say were not delivered on time. So here is a Fun Giveaway: If you are a current client of mine and mention this story to me, I will give you a gift card to eat at Pizza Shack.
