Parks Near Lake Conroe

With Spring on the horizon and beautiful days ahead it is time to get out and enjoy the great outdoors. If you live in the Lake Conroe area or if you are considering moving here, there are some great outdoor areas to launch your boat, take a hike, mountain bike, play with the kids, camp, ATV, ride your horse, picnic, bird watch, and play disc golf.  Come check out all lake Conroe has to offer!

John Burge Park

A 39-acre park maintained by the City of Conroe located on 11050 Little Egypt Rd. Conroe, TX 77304.  This newer gem tucked away off of FM 830 offers a playground, pavilion, restrooms, an outdoor learning center, picnic tables, 1-mile jogging/walking trail, and an 18-hole Champion Disc Golf Course.

Cedar Brake Park

Located in the center of downtown Montgomery at 900 Eva St., this family friendly park offers several playgrounds, volleyball, covered pavilion, BBQ grills, picnic tables, and lots of shade. The park is also handicap accessible. For news and more information about the park click here.

Fernland Historical Park & Memory Park

Both of these parks are located next to the Charles B. Stewart Library on Bessie Price Owen Street in the heart of downtown Montgomery. Fernland park is an educational park comprised of historic homes and buildings which provide a sample of early Texas life. Several of the log homes and cabins are among the oldest structures in Texas. Take a stroll through Memory Park and enjoy the trail surrounding the beautiful picturesque pond. The beautiful landscaping, bird sanctuary, duck nesting area, butterfly garden, covered pavilion, picnic tables, and benches are made possible by the Rotary Club in memory of loved ones. Scott’s Ridge

This Day Use Area is part of the Sam Houston National Forest located on the west edge of the lake off of FM 1097 on Forest Service Road 212. Scott’s Ridge offers a public boat ramp and picnic area and shelters.

Kelly Pond Recreational Area

This Multi-Use Area also part of Sam Houston National Forest provides access to the Lone Star Hiking Trail and multi-use dirt bike, equestrian, and mountain bike trails. Located west of I-45 along.  Kelly Pond Recreational Area is located west of Interstate 45  FM-1375 west of New Waverly. Primitive camping as well as picnic tables are available.

Cagle Recreation Area

Located west of I-45 on FM 1375 in New Waverly,  along the shoreline of Lake Conroe, Cagle is a newer campground with a boat ramp. This recreation area offers lakeshore hiking, bicycle trails, wildlife viewing, and picnic area. Not far from the camping area is 85 miles of OHV, equestrian and mountain bike trails close and 129 miles of hiking on the Lone Star Hiking Trail. Wildflower blooms are spectacular during the Spring.

Stubblefield Recreation Area

On the west side of the Sam Houston National Forest along the north shore of Lake Conroe on Forest Service Road 215,  Stubblefield Recreation Area offers camping, access to the Lone Star Hiking Trail, fishing, hiking, and birding.
